Permitting process

Preparation of the offshore wind farm design is a multi-year process. From obtaining the first permit to the commencement of construction, it may take up to 10-12 years. During this time, the necessary documentation is being prepared, efforts are being made to obtain the required permits and environmental surveys are being conducted:

  • In March 2012, the offshore wind farm OWF Baltyk III obtained a decision on the permit for construction of artificial islands, also referred to as the location permit
  • In August 2012, the OWF Baltyk III obtained the connection conditions from the transmission system operator
  • In August 2014, the OWF Baltyk III signed the agreement concerning the conditions for connection to the power grid
  • In March 2014, the decision was issued on the permit for laying cables on the seabed
  • For the onshore part of the infrastructure (cable route, substation) it is necessary to obtain many separate location permits. If the cable route passes through the communes not covered by a local development plan, it is necessary to issue an additional decision concerning the location of the public-purpose investment project
  • In July 2016, the OWF Baltyk III project obtained a decision on environmental conditions
  • The building permit is issued by the Voivodship Governor on the basis of: technical design of wind farms and permits obtained by the investors at earlier stages, in particular the environmental decision. This is the last permit required prior to the commencement of construction
